Join us at the PLA Conference 2021 for two afternoons of interactive presentations, panels and workshops with prison education experts.
With speakers including:
2PM – A roundup of the year in prison education, and a discussion on the work of the PLA with Chair of the PLA Steering Committee, Professor Tom Schuller.
2.45PM – 4.30PM – Presentations and conversations about supporting learners with neurodivergent conditions, with practitioners in prisons. We’ll hear from: Michael Ryan, Inspector at HMI Probation, about the recent Joint Review of evidence on neurodiversity in the criminal justice system; Alice Jones, Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCO) at HMP and YOI Parc; and Teresa Carroll, National Head for Inclusion at the Education and Training Foundation.

6PM – 7:15PM – Panel event: Trauma, learning and prisons. How does trauma affect someone’s ability to learn? What can prisons and teachers do to support learners? Join us at our evening panel discussion with Tanvir Hynes, Head of Education at HMP Bronzefield, Marc Conway, Prisoner Engagement Coordinator at the Prison Reform Trust, Fionnuala Gordon, Head of Trauma Informed Communities at One Small Thing, and Matthew Morgan, Sector Lead for Further Education at Ace Aware Wales.
2PM – A presentation from Jack O’Sullivan, who is directing the Ministry of Justice Accelerator Prisons Project, and a discussion with two post holders at HMP Bristol, about their work offering specialist support on curriculum and progression, and neurodiversity.
