The prison curriculum in England and Wales demands reform – it is lacking in creativity, inclusivity and adequate opportunities for personal and professional development. This is highlighted throughout evidence submissions to the UK Parliament Education Committee’s inquiry, Education: Are prisoners being left behind?. In addition to responding with our own submission to the inquiry on prison education, we have established an expert PLA Working Group to develop our work on the prison curriculum.
The Curriculum Working Group, established this year, have been meeting regularly to discuss how PLA can influence the prison education curriculum, and the changes that educators and prisoners would like to see.
